Software
Technology used by PervActive in developing software components is based on the Java framework (J2SE for personal computers and consoles, J2ME for mobile devices, MHP for interactive TV, JSP for web services). Applications created with Java are highly portable, cross-platform and massive networking-oriented, including location-based services, also on hardware limited devices.
Models
Models used to increase software pervasiveness and interaction quality come from the Artificial Intelligence research domain. They are agent-based systems able to self-adapt to the environment, to learn and act autonomously, to self-evolve with experience and self-coordinate to solve complex problems. When more lifelike skills are added, like emotion expression and understanding, goal-driven proactive behavior, and natural language communication, they are commonly known as syntethic characters. When those systems are embedded in software and multimedia products, they can overdraw enormously the experience offered to users by enhancing either the so-called suspension of disbelief and the cognitive and emotional challenge proposed during interaction.
